Retirement of Census services from Esri UK Online Services

We will be retiring the 2011 Census map services for Great Britain from our Esri UK free Online Map Services on the 8th of December 2014 with access being removed from your account.

We have provided an alternative set of services hosted in ArcGIS Online which customers can access for free and provide an improved and more flexible way to access and interact with the data. The services are provided as dynamic map services and have been configured via a number of web maps and a Story Map which has symbolised data and pop-ups for attribution.

The data can be accessed in a variety of ways such as through the ArcGIS Online map viewer, ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Desktop.   For further information please see a Geoexchange blog post here

Shellshock (CVE-2014-6271)

Hi all, Hot on the heels of the Heartbleed bug is a new vulnerability dubbed 'Shellshock'. It is a weakness with the well-known 'nix shell called 'Bash' - and apparently has been around for a while. The bug allows the processing of additional shell commands after a function definition - this means that someone can add extra commands to the end of an existing legitimate one, and there's a chance that it will get executed. The Online Operations Team has taken all necessary steps to apply the recommended fixes to the systems and will be closely monitoring the situation. There is also additional updates from Esri Inc.
