Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS has arrived
/Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS is a powerful new application builder included as part of ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS (which itself is now included as part of ArcGIS for Server). Technical Support for Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS is available under Esri UK’s Standard Support policy.
For ArcGIS Developers, Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS (Developer Edition) provides the ability to extend the out-of-the-box capabilities with custom functionality through the development of bespoke widgets and themes. As a developer-focussed product, support for Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS (Developer Edition) is beyond the scope of Esri UK’s Standard Support policy. Instead it is covered by our Developer Support policy.

Applications created with both editions of the Web AppBuilder can be used with ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS and even shared with groups of users through the embedded sharing tools, just like any other content. However, there is an important distinction in how these applications are deployed. Whilst applications created with Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS are naturally hosted as part of ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS, any applications created using the Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS (Developer Edition) must be hosted independently on a separate web server and need to be added as individual items from within ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS.
If you are only using Web AppBuilder to create applications using out-of-the-box widgets and templates, the recommended approach is to create these applications within either ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS. Not only are the applications automatically hosted for you but your usage of Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS is also covered under Esri UK’s Standard Support policy. In addition, the Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS (Developer Edition) supports the import of applications created with ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS, so if you wish to enhance your existing Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS application with custom development, you can easily migrate to a custom development project at a later date.
