Geoprocessing Service instances can crash after updates to Windows 2008 R2 or Windows 7

Microsoft have recently released updates for Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 7 to address the Meltdown and Spectre Processor Vulnerabilities. Please see the following links for the most-up-to-date information regarding Esri’s response to these vulnerabilities

However after installing these updates, customers may find errors related to Geoprocessing Service instances crashing.

The errors reported will be similar to this:

Service Failed to start
Utilities.Printingtools.GPServer:
MACHINENAME.DOMAIN.COM
Service containing process crashed for "SERVICENAME.GPServer". Please see if an error report was generated ...
