How to install, enable and license Productivity Suite silently

There may be cases when software needs to be installed silently. This article aims to help customers who would like to deploy, enable and license Productivity Suite without user interaction in their organisation.

Installing Productivity Suite with full access rights:

  1. Place the installer msi file in a temporary directory.
  2. Open the Command Line and change diretory (cd) into the folder containing the msi (e.g. cd C:\Temp)
  3. Enter the following command:

MSIEXEC /i ProductivitySuiteVersion.msi ALLUSERS=1 /qb (Modify the name of the msi to the correct filename depending on which version you have).

You can use different Command Line Options if needed - details of the full range of commands can be found on Microsoft's website.

For Productivity Suite 3.2 only:
There is a known bug with installing Productivity Suite 3.2 silently. This bug prevents the software being installed to the correct folder, and getting registered in ArcMap. This has been resolved in Productivity Suite 3.3 (now available), so we would advise customers to install this version instead of version 3.2.

Enabling Productivity Suite in ArcMap/ArcCatalog:
This step is used for customers who want to deploy an image to many users with Desktop extensions already selected.
Navigate to the following registry entry (this is for ArcGIS Desktop v10.0, but the registry keys are similar for other ArcGIS Desktop versions):

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ESRI\Desktop10.0\ArcMap\Extensions

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ESRI\Desktop10.0\ArcCatalog\Extensions

When ArcMap is first opened and none of the extensions are turned on, there will be no values under this registry location. As the extensions are turned on, DWORD value keys get created in this location with the product codes of the extensions and with the value of 1 or 2 to indicate if they are on or off.
Instead of having ArcMap create these registry entries automatically, you can manually create the DWORD keys and enter the value 1 to have these extensions turned on when ArcMap is opened for the first time.

For example, the registry key for Productivity Suite is: {B633FD03-46C1-44E8-BC4A-185E02D1CD5E}

Please note that we cannot guarantee results from incorrect modifications while following these instructions. Therefore, use caution and proceed at your own risk.

Updating/installing your Productivity Suite licence without using the UKPG licence manager
The xml licence file that you will have been sent from Esri UK’s Order Processing team should be renamed to 'PSLicence.xml' and copied to one of two locations depending on whether the licence is limited to all users or a single user.

On Windows XP:

Current User:  C:\Documents and Settings\<current_user>\Application Data\ESRIUK\LicenceStore\
All Users:         C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ESRIUK\LicenceStore\

On Windows 7:

Current User:  C:\Users\<current_user>\AppData\Roaming\ESRIUK\LicenceStore\
All Users:         C:\ProgramData\ESRIUK\LicenceStore\

Please note that the individual user will have to accept the Licence Agreement that pops up when ArcMap is first opened (and switch on the extension if needed).
